Spindley Fun

I have new spindles! My sister and brother in law got me an amazing Christmas gift this year - membership in the Zebisis Designs 3 month spindle club! Each month, a new spindle and some fibre arrive at my door. It really is the Christmas gift that keeps on giving. If you're looking to find a gift for a knitter, crocheter, or spinner, fibre and yarn clubs are an amazing choice. Two of my monthly packages have arrived, and the third should be here this month some time.

Have a look at the first two spindles!

This one is carnelian, rosewood, and rose gold
Pyrite with flower turquoise, rosewood, and 14k gold

One of my goals for this month is to actually use them. They're mesmerizingly pretty, and they spin so very, very fast. The spin isn't all that long, but as the first thing I'm going to be using them for is mulberry silk, the high speed and shorter spin will help me keep control of this super-slippery, new-to-me fibre.

  2. That purple-y marble one is gorgeous! You're going to have to show me how to use a spindle...I took a lesson once, but since there were other people sharing the lesson with me, I never really got it. I think I'm overspinning or something. Maybe it's my spindle? I got a VERY basic/beginner spindle from Ashford. I see everyone's handspun and a little part of me dies cause I want to spin pretty stuff too!

  3. Whiplash - You know, I think even the most humble abilities desrve beautiful tools. If you're able to, you should totally buy a lovely spindle! Good tools make learning easier, and beautiful tools make you more inclined to practice!

Melissa - I would happily teach you to use a spindle! I'm something of a spinning evangelist ;) The purple spindle is so lovely - it's pyrite (fool's gold) so it's shiny and heavy and amazing. Love!
