Hey everyone! First off - no update this week. Updates over the next four or so weeks are going to be sparse as I'm preparing for Fibres West and I need to keep a healthy chunk of my stock for the big event! If you are desperately hoping to get ahold of a specific base or colourway, please let me know, even if you don't see it in the shop. The store is well stocked right now - go have a look!
I wanted to share a little of the insanity that is my yearly December-January stash enhancement. With Christmas in December and my birthday in January, most of my yearly purchasing/gifting happens over those two months. I'm rolling in yarn and fibre right now ("rolling in" as in "I have a lot", not as in "I set it all out on the bed and then roll in it" - the felting, you see, is a risk I just can't take) and my two under-bed bins are OMG SO FULL. They're bulging in all directions and need to be wrestled under the bed because they don't fit. In lieu of a yarn diet I've just decided to knit more. That makes sense... right?
This post is massively picture heavy, so I'm putting it behind a break. Click for more!
Check out the haul - yarn first.
Knit Picks Wool of the Andes Sport, for the Oranje sweater
Knit Picks Wool of the Andes, for the Vignette sweater
Sundara Sock, to be paired with something aubergine for a Daybreak
Schaefer Anne, to be fondled and loved until one day its prince comes
OnLine self striping sock yarns, bought for mere pennies at Little Knits
Noro Kureyon Sock, also cheap as chips at Little Knits. Their site is a little bit archaic looking but OMG CHEAP. The service is great too - they made sure to refund me the little bit of shipping that was overpaid, and they were really sweet. One of these will be a Spectra.
Very cool handspun
That's a lot. But wait! There's fibre!
Ashford merino/silk
Tussah/camel
Oatmeal BFL from Sweatermaker Yarns
Amazing batts from Inglenook Fibers
The first batt from the Blushing Ewe batt club that I won. Go check this shop out - Lori was so generous to give this away, and her colour combinations are beautiful. I find them soothing, if that makes sense.
My quickly expanding Fat Cat Knits collection. I've been admiring this shop for a year, and I'm determined that it will ALL be mine.
My Zebisis designs club fibre, so far. That batt is well over a foot wide. I'm in love.
A Hanks in the Hood batt from Knit Picks. A bit squished in shipping...
Polwarth in Abalone from the awesome Dana of Unwind Yarn Company
Well, there you have it. I'm trying not to buy anything right now, because I'm pretty set and have lots of spinning and knittting projects in mind. Some people talk about their yarn or fibre stash like it's a shameful thing, and I'm sure at least one person who reads this will think it's absurd that I've collected all this stuff. Thing is, yarn doesn't spoil. I could go for a year or two on what I have. If we run into financial hard times, this will be here for me, and I won't feel like life lacks luxury. I use my stash - it doesn't sit in bins, hiding under bins, as I hoard more. If you have a yarn stash, think of it as an investment for the future. If life throws you a curve ball, you have something to knit. Or you can destash it - you'd be suprised hw much money lurks in all that lovely fluff.
amen, sister! yarn's forever. it has so much creative, financial and social potential that being ashamed of one's stash is silly. just silly.
ReplyDeletei'm liisa, by the way. love your stuff.
