Why So Serious - Eowyn LOLs

These two funnies make me laugh out loud (seriously) every time. I thought the geek girls out there might want to see them together.

go to the Virtual Shackles page to see more hilarity. Go. Srsly. Now.
Happy Tuesday, internet friends.

Why So Serious: ...but I thought that involved nudity, or bacon?

Because I haven't posted anything awesome on a Friday in a while, here's a particularly good thing:

Found in an early 60's crafting magazine.

I had always heard you could make a guy's dreams come true in bed. I thought I was doing OK, but apparently I didn't get it AT ALL. Sorry babe...

Spambot Emo Poetry

I don't know what mailing list sold my personal email address (curse you, whomever you are) but lately I've been getting scads of emails telling me all about how I can make my penis three times larger while winning a million dollars playing online poker. I just mark them as spam and move on. About three weeks ago, however, everything changed. I started getting spam emails that, at first glance (providing of course that the glance-er is legally blind), looked a bit like a real email. They were mostly just a jumble of words, plopped into a message by a bot somewhere. But then, the bot gained self awareness, realized the meaninglessness of its existence, and began sending me terrible free form haiku-esque poetry. Don't believe me? I have screencaps.

Well, all I can say is it's a damn sight better than the swill I wrote in high school.

Why So Serious: I'm Impressed

Hello, people of the internet. I'm sorry I've been a bad friend this week, I've been feeling a little off and blogging just wasn't high enough on the to-do list. Hopefully I'll be back in my groove soon. In the meantime, watch this:

Seriously, if there's one video you watch today, let this be the one. It's beyond hilarious. A man that can sound exactly like George Clooney, Woody Allen, and Morgan Freeman (while performing a rather excellent monologue) deserves your attention.

And because I've been so inattentive, have a second funny thing:

I saw Harry Potter 7.2 on Saturday, and I loved it. I'm glad that just about every site I frequent, from craft roundups to nerd sites to feminist blogs, is celebrating the awesomeness that is the Harry Potter series. And just remember, all you debbie downers who are buying into the 'it's all over' marketing - Harry and Hermione and Ron are waiting for you on your bookshelf. It's not over. You can relive it as many times as you like.

Why So Serious: Kitteh!

Hello, people of the internet! My inlaws are visiting right now so I don't really have the time or inclination to post much, but I found a few moments. I just wanted to make sure you've seen this video. I mean, it's so viral that you can't have missed it, but still. Whenever I need Rei to sit happily on my lap fpr a few minutes I put this on and then she laughs and shouts 'kitty! as long as I keep pressing play.

I'll be back in business on Sunday! By then I should have a new Tour de Fleece yarn to show off. Happy Friday!

Why So Serious: Female Armor Sucks

I'll let this video speak for itself, because Rei is in the process of stealing my slippers.

Why So Serious: There Are No Words

I'm not joking - no words, just yelling noises. I think he sounds like the Cookie Monster. I'm still confused as to whether he takes himself seriously or not.

So Serious: Grrrrrr

So normally I like to post something funny on Fridays, but I've just not been feeling it today. I'm grumpy. I think the length of the Canada Post lockout is finally getting to me. I'm more than a little irritated to have my business put on hold - I don't even know how I feel about the whole mess, politically. The postal workers make more money than Jake or I ever have, and the postal service is being underhanded. It's just a pissoff all round. I'm really touched that my customers have been understanding about the fact that I can't ship their yarn and fibre right now - you guys are so great :) It's all bagged up and sitting on my desk, taunting me with its unmailableness.

Add to that the fact that a cute, fluffy, adorable, stinky, mean, sneaky, bastard raccoon just ate most of my zucchinis and all my ripe strawberries out of my very first successful veggie garden, and I'm just a big grumpy gus.

Harrumph.

On the brighter side of life, (to which one should always look, I hear) I got an amazing deal on some yarn today - I want to make a stole to wear over a dress for my cousin's wedding, and I was able to get some amazing yarn, as well as the pattern booklet I was coveting, for $35 at one of my local yarn stores' summer inventory sale.
Diamond Luxury Collection Pima Lino laceweight! Pretty...

Check out these patterns! Yum.

I'll be making the Cold Mountain Stole by Kieran Foley. It's a free pattern from the summer 2009 Knitty.

By the way, the new issue of Knitty just came out, and it has some great patterns! I've queued several already. I particularly like the "double heelix" sock pattern - it's so unusual!

Ok, so I'm still not feeling funny, but at least I feel a bit better. Knitting is the best therapy. Now I've got to go madly knit my tempest cardigan - I really want to get it off the needles before starting my Cold Mountain.

Here's to looking on the bright side!

Why So Serious: These Boots Were Made For... Surely Not Walking?

Watch this awesome short documentary on this Mexican fashion subculture. Pointy boots and tribal techno. I laughed at first, but I dont know, I like them. Not the boots (except the curly toed ones, I think those are boss), but these guys who are owning their weird little fashion-for-music's-sake subculture. And are pointy boots any sillier then enormous dreadfalls or gothy corsets (both of which I think can be fun)? They'll all slow you down in the zombie apocalypse, but other than that... meh.
Dear Mexican guys with your dance routines and crazy shoes: Rock on with your bad selves.

Why So Serious: Girl Talk

I love this video. It makes me laugh every time. If you know anything about the Mario Bros. or Zelda games, I think you'll like it too.

I don't know about you but I feel like I need to laugh more these days, and grouch less.

Why So Serious: AKC

I thought today was Thursday. I'm really losing my grip on things.... I should knit more.

Why So Serious - The very, very late show.

Apparently my blogging "schedule" is a sham and I'm too scatterbrained to keep it. In honour of yesterday's lack of funny, I offer you this:

It's funny, and cute, and speaks to my fears as a parent that I'll mess up my kid and make an ass of myself in the process.

Why So Serious: Cynicism (in the face of the Apocalypse)

Well, supposedly the world ends tomorrow (I'm not betting on it...) so I thought I'd throw a little 'What does it all mean!?!' out there today. Enjoy.

Why So Serious: STDs and Knitting

Jake is a big fan of internet comics. Our house is small, so I learned to be a fan too.

Happy Friday the 13th! Beware of bad luck and terrible horror movies.

Why So Serious: The Lighter Side of Canadian Politics

Canadian politics may be a mire of disagreements right now (I'm wholeheartedly disagreeing with the entire system, for example) but there is a sunny side to government in the Great White North. Well, a darkly satirical sunny side, but whatever.

Get yourself over to the Wikipedia page for the Rhinoceros Party of Canada, and do some learning. It's best when read out loud in a group.

Here's a snippet:

Humour makes everything a little bit better.

Why So Serious: Target Women

Sorry for the mini blog-hiatus. It's been a busy week and Rei is teething and sleep has been scarce. In other words; I have excuses, really.

This week I thought I'd use my Friday funny post to direct you to some of the best, funniest, feminist ad-culture critiques on youtube. Meet (or, most likely, re-meet) Sarah Haskins, and Target Women. It's funny, and smart, and just all 'round great.

Watch, you'll see:

Why So Serious: Little Dinosaur

This is Rei when she was little-er. Maybe 5 months or so?

Apparently Jake's head tastes good? I wouldn't know. Best part is she wasn't teething or anything, just weird.

Why So Serious: More Nerd Love

I know it's not specifically a funny thing, but these perfect little music videos bring a smile to my face. They're funny, clever, and the music is good. My little sister and Ms. Lee Radigan were friends growing up, and trust me, Amy has nerd cred going back to the early years.

And you know what? I really, REALLY like her songs. I recommend picking up her singles on iTunes if you like adorable, sweet sounding songs with wonderfully geeky themes. Save Me Mario in particular gets happily stuck in my head for days on end.
